New replacement tyres and comparable subsequent purchases – not the original tyres fitted when a vehicle was first acquired.
Three review areas · clear priority
Replacement-tyre purchases can be recorded from invoices or accounting exports and structured for further competition-law review.
Tyre cartel · detailed guidance
In January 2024, the European Commission carried out unannounced inspections at companies active in the tyre sector. The inspections concerned possible price coordination involving new replacement tyres for cars, vans, trucks and buses sold in the European Economic Area.
EU case AT.40863 · Replacement Tyres↗Inspections are a preliminary investigative step. They do not establish an infringement and do not prejudge the outcome. Point Zero Legal therefore does not record an assumed claim as certain; it structures available purchasing data for a factual case-by-case review.
The current structured intake considers purchasing data from 2016 to 2025. Whether and to what extent an individual purchase is legally relevant can be determined only after review.
New replacement tyres and comparable subsequent purchases – not the original tyres fitted when a vehicle was first acquired.
Trucks, trailers and semi-trailers, buses, vans, light commercial vehicles and larger passenger-car fleets.
Direct purchases, dealer invoices or fleet purchases billed through central suppliers.
Purchases and business use in the European Economic Area; cross-border cases are assessed separately.
These records are sufficient for the first step.
CSV, Excel and invoice data are taken over in a structured format. Original records remain available as evidence.
Suppliers, credit notes, duplicates and incomplete line items are identified transparently.
Item descriptions and brands are mapped to manufacturers and purchasing categories; unresolved entries remain visible.
After completeness checks, the structured file is provided to specialist law firms for legal assessment.
Point Zero Legal does not determine the liability of individual manufacturers and does not state that a claim exists or has a particular value. The instructed lawyers alone assess the legal position, potential defendants and any further steps in the individual case.

Frequently asked questions
No. An unclear starting position is normal. During the initial call, we consider tolls, truck proceedings and tyre purchases separately.
Monthly statements since 2023 are useful for tolls. Vehicle and procedural records matter for the truck cartel. For tyres, invoices or an accounting export are sufficient initially.
We then need the provider, contractual model and current status. Whether any further step is required can only be assessed after reviewing the individual case.

Replacement tires, data intake and the difference between investigations and a confirmed claim.
Possible claims relating to new replacement tires are examined. The European Commission carried out reviews in the tire sector; a cartel infringement is not thereby proven. Legal classification is made only after individual case review.
For the structured initial intake tire purchases from 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2025 are considered. Whether individual purchases are legally relevant depends, among other things, on manufacturer, procurement and applicable limitation periods.
Intended are new replacement tires and comparable subsequent procurements. This can include tires for trucks, trailers and semi-trailers, buses, vans, sprinters and larger car fleets. Original equipment fitted on vehicle purchase is not meant.
As a rule purchases and operational use in the European Economic Area are considered. Cross-border cases and purchases by companies based outside the EEA are classified separately.
Both can be relevant for intake. Dealer invoices, direct purchases and central suppliers can be captured. Framework agreements with manufacturers, for example on a per-kilometre price basis, are also examined in individual cases.
No. Which limitation periods apply to a possible claim and which steps may be necessary depend on the individual case. The legal review is carried out by the commissioned law firm. Mere data capture or pre-registration does not automatically preserve all limitation periods.
Helpful is a CSV or Excel export from accounting as well as invoices, where available. Required are in particular supplier, invoice number, purchase or invoice date, item description, brand, manufacturer, tire type, quantity, net amount and currency.
The data are taken over in a structured manner and cleaned traceably. Credit notes, duplicates and incomplete items are flagged, not silently removed. Open allocations remain visible.
Yes. Do not destroy invoices and other proofs before the case has been reviewed. Original documents can be important for plausibility checks and later legal assessment; missing documents can make quantification more difficult.
Please inform us with which provider or law firm the claim is filed and what contract or procedural status it has. Already registered cases are not evaluated categorically. Whether further action is required is reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
